The lions again
This was pretty cool. A mother elephant playing with a baby in the water. The baby would do full barrel rolls in the water, and spray water at its mom.
You can see the hippos being lazy there too.
Hippos are so fat, it's hard to imagine how they can get up. It's also hard to believe they can run like 20 or 30 miles an hour.
Me, with the binoculars, standing by our Polo
What I was looking at:
Just a crazy looking tree & root system
Okay, there is a story behind this one. We came up to another place off the road - a scenic overlook this time - with a sign saying that we could leave the
car at our own risk. At this point, we had been driving for quite a while since our last stop, and I needed to use the bathroom. Now, even though you're
allowed to get out of your car at these stops, you aren't exactly encouraged to go marking your territory - you aren't even supposed to make any noise if you
can help it - but I couldn't resist, since there was no sign of anything near us - animals or other people. So we stopped the car and got out, and I got
Becca to watch the road. She was afraid of getting locked out of our car, so she left the door open. Like I said, there wasn't any sign of anything when
we pulled up here, but she took her eyes off the car for maybe 10 seconds, and when she looked back, there was a whole gang of monkeys behind the car eating
snack crackers!
Becca was saying "Ow, how cute, look at the monkeys, they're so....." then "Hey, what are they eating, are those cookies?....." then "HEY YOU @*&@*@@s,
THOSE ARE OUR CRACKERS!!!"
I laughed. and laughed. and laughed.
These guys must have a regular racket going in this spot, because they were in and out like lightning, like a team. They were good crackers too. >=(
Monkeys with OUR crackers:
The view from the overlook, with hippos:
This guy was huge and old - I think around 60 years - and his tusks almost touched the ground.
Another watering hole, with waterbucks and impalas.
We drove up next to a field here, and saw dozens and dozens of elephants. We couldn't get all of them in the picture.
